 The
7th Annual South Padre Island Chili Expo, sponsored by South Padre
Island Chamber of Commerce and held at Louie's Backyard, once again
proved to be a exciting day for everyone. The day started out good,
but soon heavy rain and cold temperatures moved in on the 26 teams.
All Chili Teams are to be commended this year because no matter what
the weather, they stuck it out and cooked their best pot of chili!
By the time the doors opened at noon, the rain had stopped and over
300 people joined the teams to taste their chili and wait for the
judging results. A big thank you to those over 300 people and the
teams for sticking it out and make this year’s event again, a huge
success!
Committee members for the 2007 event were Chairperson Shelton Coleman – Coleman Hall & Heinze Insurance, Jim Harvill - Sysco Food Service and Dan Stanton - Louie's Backyard. Volunteers for the 2007 event were Angie Bogdan and Annabel Givens – Dancer Condominiums. Another vital group of people to the Chili Cook-off are the judges, both Chili and Showmanship. To ensure these people will help again in the future, they shall remain nameless.
