year the South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Gala and Scholarship
Fundraiser in November. All proceeds from the event go to the Laguna Madre Education
Foundation. In 1996, the Laguna Madre Education Foundation was formed in order
to help local students attain post-secondary education, increasing the educational,
and therefore socio-economic, levels of our community. The following is a brief
history of the scholarship program:

The auction will include items such as Southwest
Airlines tickets, 5-Days/4-Nights at Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas in Newport
Coast, California, 6-Days/5-Nights at Marriott’s Ko’Olina Beach Club and 6-Days/5-Nights
at Marriott’s Kauai Beach Club. Ticket price to the event includes wonderful
hors d’oeuvres and live music provided by Pelican West. The 2008 Boot Scootin’
Ball “Black Ties, Boots & Bangles” Gala and Scholarship Fundraiser will be held
on November 8, 2008 at Club
Pelican West. Every
dollar raised is another step toward changing a child's future.
