2009 Kukui Award
The Kukui, the state tree
of Hawaii, produces a candlenut and as the legend describes it the Kukui nut was
used as a light source providing a "guiding light" to successfully and safely
lead travelers to their destinations. Our Kukui Award is presented to
individuals who displays strong leadership qualities and has provided guidance
which has contributed to the success of the Chamber and our Community. This
recognition award was established by the Board of Directors in 2004, at the suggestion
of Chamber leader Liz Money, as an opportunity to publicly thank individuals deserving
of recognition for passionate leadership and involvement. Our past recipients
have included Dianna Harvill, Shelton Coleman, Mary Ann Tous, Russell Judah, Liz
Money and Alita Bagley. This year the award goes to a TEAM - two individuals
- who collectively have given significant time and resources to the work of the
Chamber in our community. If there is a Chamber event or project planned these
two have always stepped forward to unselfishly lend their support and offer sponsorship.
With kind word and deed their commitment comes from the heart. As a leadership
example to each of us the Chamber would like to honor husband and wife team, Betty
Zamorsky and Bobby Vanzant with the South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce Kukui
Award. |
