Best of all, the requirements for getting married on South Padre Island are relatively simple and uncomplicated. Both religious and civil ceremonies can be performed at virtually any location on the Island. Here is what you need to know:

1 Residents and non-residents of Texas can obtain a marriage license from any County Clerk’s office in the State. Both parties must be present and at least 18 years old. Positive forms of identification such as photo ID and birth certificates are required. No blood test is required. The license is good for 30 days. There is a 72-hour waiting period between obtaining the license and holding the wedding. Cost of a license for both resident and nonresidents is $42.00 cash (checks and credit cards are not accepted). 2 The closest Cameron County office is located at 501 Hwy. 100, Port Isabel, Texas, (956) 943-8101. Hours: 8:00 am – 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm Monday – Friday. 3 Numerous religious and civil persons are available to perform ceremonies. Contact the South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce at (956) 761-4412 for current information. 4 All beach weddings held within the city limits of South Padre Island are required to have a no-fee permit. Anyone can pickup the permit, but it must be done in person. The permit informs all interested parties of the wedding details, helps ensure your wedding does not restrict the use of the beach to others, and provides you with state and local beach rules and laws.
